On the 23rd of November 2014, we put out a tweet during Theo Paphitis’s #SBS, lots of businesses enter this “tweetoff” every week. Little did we know what was coming next. The following evening during dinner the notifications on my mobile we’re going crazy (much to the annoyance of my husband). A quick check of my phone revealed why.
We had done it… We had been chosen by Theo Paphitis himself as one of six small businesses of the week.
The first 24 hours were were crazy, we couldn’t keep up with the amount of tweets we were getting and our following increased by around 100 followers that day alone. Our winning tweet was seen by over 24,000 other tweeters!
Things eventually quietened down, Christmas came and went, we were invited to the #SBS winners event at Symphony Hall in Birmingham on the 30th January 2015, exciting stuff!
The first few hours were spent networking with other likeminded small business owners, it was great to meet so many fantastic independent businesses.
After a presentation by Theo himself, a buffet lunch was served before taking our seats again where a panel of successful business men and women joined Theo on stage to take part in a Q&A and to share their success stories. The panel were truly inspirational, each with a different success story to tell. It really does prove that with a lot of passion, perseverance and hard work we are all able to make our first million…I’m still hoping.
At the end of the event we got the chance to meet the man himself, he presented us with our winners certificate whilst our official picture was taken. We left him with one of our lemongrass, oat and Cotswold honey bars of handmade soap.
The event was really inspirational and to all fellow small business owners out there I would recommend tweeting during #SBS, you never know you too could be one of Theo Paphitis’s chosen ones. The week after the event we recieved an email from Theo and the #SBS team thanking us for their soap and that he was looking forward to trying it out! Amazing!
